The Humber Maritime Group of Rotary Clubs is thrilled to announce the date of next year’s Disability Games and that Sophie Bartup, has joined as the new Chair of the Games for 2025.
“Next year’s Games will be on Sunday 27th April 2025 at Hymers College in Hull” announced Peter Duffield of the Games Committee “and we are extremely grateful to Hymers for their continued support.”
“With her extensive experience in inclusive sports and passion for creating opportunities for all abilities, Sophie is poised to bring fresh ideas and energy to this much-loved event” continued Peter. “Sophie is joined by Katie Winn, another fantastic addition to the team, whose commitment and enthusiasm will undoubtedly enhance the planning and delivery of the games.”
"I am absolutely delighted to join the Disability Games, which is such a prestigious and inspiring event. I can't wait to continue the amazing work that has been done over the years and to build on the incredible legacy of inclusion and achievement” said Sophie, a dedicated volunteer from Little Victories in the Community.
“I’d like to thank the executive committee for their exceptional efforts in organising previous games and for the warm welcome I’ve received."
“Together, Katie and I aim to build on the success of past events while exploring new ways to ensure every participant enjoys a memorable and empowering experience” continued Sophie.
The Rotary Disability Games have been held continuously in the area for nearly 30 years.
They provide a means for Rotary to organise a unique day bringing together people with a wide range of disabilities allowing them to meet up and have a day socialising, competing in a fun way and just generally enjoying themselves.
The accent on the day is “fun” and any Rotarian who has attended will not fail to talk about the amount of laughter they hear and glee they see on the faces of the competitors, whose ages range from 9 to 15 (juniors) and 16+ (seniors).
A central principle is that the day is provided free of charge to the competitor and their carer.
Transport can be enabled by the sponsoring Rotary Club and consideration may also need to be given to the costs of providing carers without whom participation by some may not be possible.
The cost of staging the Games and those at the venue on the day, including food etc, are provided by the Games organising committee.
Groups interested in participating in the Games should contact their local Rotary Club or email rotary.disability.games.hull@gmail.com
